The COMMUTER PACK
First Place Winning Project Submission for the Kenneth Cole Productions Internship Competition.
Objective: Interns were to create a design of their choice in any product category for the Summer 2015 season that could live in one of the two concepts for the season. Interns were also required to make a marketing component for their design that is relevant to the Kenneth Cole Productions brand. Interns were required to create a prototype model based on their sketched idea of choice. The designs were to incorporate functionality, the Kenneth Cole Productions brand aesthetic, and the socially conscious values of the company. We were required to go through a sketch and concept review to junior designers, as well as the final product presentation to senior designers in the company.
For my project I was extremely inspired by the electronic bike my boss created for Kenneth Cole and decided to build upon that idea by creating an ideal backpack for the man that lives his life on the go. I let the concept of the urban Kenneth Cole man as my muse for the project. Putting the needs of an urban man on the go and an elevated design aesthetic were at the forefront of my concept. I developed a large concept board showing market research, needs of the consumer, trend research of my product category, sketches of my product ideas, a prototype, and a marketing campaign. This project helped me to learn the design process of product development and bringing to the market a product that best exemplifies innovation without the loss of brand identity.
